Science Investigation – Refraction

Year 6 have been investigating refraction, the way light bends when it passes from one material into another. Using a sheet of paper with an arrow drawn on it and a glass of water, the pupils were amazed to see the arrow appear to flip direction when viewed through the glass. The experiment helped pupils see how light changes direction as it travels through water and glass, creating surprising optical effects. The pupils enjoyed predicting what they thought would happen, testing it out, and then discussing the science behind the illusion.
