Authorised and Unauthorised Absence
Your child’s absence from school will only be authorised if:
• They are too ill to attend. In this case, you must ensure you contact the school on each morning of your child’s absence by 8:45am. The only exception to this is in the case of long-term absence due to illness, in this instance we will require a letter from your GP or Hospital.
• Your child has a medical appointment and the school has been notified, however, whenever possible medical appointments should be made outside of school hours.
• Exceptional circumstances apply and the Headteacher has given permission.
If your child is absent from school and the school has not been informed of the reason, their absence will be recorded as unauthorised. Any absence other than in circumstances as described above, will be recorded as unauthorised. In this instance the parent, guardian or carer of an absent child may be issued a Fixed Penalty Notice by the local authority. The Fixed Penalty fine is £60, which will be increased to £120 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days. If the fine is not paid within 28 days the local authority may prosecute.
